My Favorite Films

Over the years my interest in the list-making rituals so beloved by the cinephile community has waned, and my Personal Canon list is intended to acknowledge the impossibility of trying to and whittle down a list of “favorites” to a specific number of titles.

At the same time I also realize there is something to be said about going through the process of assembling a “favorites films” list. Most important to me is how it creates a kind of “time capsule” capturing the sensibilities, tastes, and interests of a particular moment in one’s life. It is in the spirit of such documentation that the following list of 101 titles was compiled. [Last updated:  December 2019]
